How To Change Your Default Web Browser On Mac

Many people use the default web browser that came installed on their computer, but did you know that you can actually change it? In this article, we’ll show you how to do just that on a Mac.

Safari

If you’re a Mac user, your default web browser is probably Safari. But what if you want to use another browser like Chrome or Firefox? Changing your default browser is easy to do and only takes a few steps.

Here’s how to change your default web browser on a Mac:

  1. Open System Preferences. You can find this in the dock or by searching for it in Spotlight.
  2. Click on the “General” preference pane.
  3. In the “Default web browser” drop-down menu, select the browser you want to use as your default.
  4. Close System Preferences and you’re all set! When you click on a web link, it will open in the browser you selected as your default.

Google Chrome

Chrome is a great browser and is the default on many Macs. But, if you’re like me, you probably use Safari as your main browser. Here’s how to change your default web browser on a Mac.

  1. Open System Preferences and click on the General Preferences pane.
  2. In the “Default web browser” drop-down menu, select the browser you want to use as your default.
  3. Close System Preferences and you’re all set!

Every time you click a link in an email or another app, it will open in your new default web browser.

Mozilla Firefox

Mozilla Firefox is a free and open-source web browser developed by the Mozilla Foundation. Firefox is available for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android. It features a tabbed window interface with a variety of built-in tools and add-ons for making web browsing more efficient and convenient.

One of the great things about Firefox is that it can be easily customized to suit your individual needs. If you’re a Mac user, you may find that Safari is your default web browser. But if you prefer to use Firefox, it’s easy to change your default browser on Mac. Here’s how:

Open the Safari web browser on your Mac. Click on the Safari menu at the top of the screen and select Preferences. In the General tab, next to Default web browser, click on the drop-down menu and select Firefox. You will be prompted to confirm your choice. Click on Use Firefox to complete the process.

Now when you click on a link in another application (such as an email or chat program), it will open in Firefox instead of Safari.

Microsoft Edge

If you’re a Mac user, you’re probably used to using Safari as your default web browser. But what if you want to switch to using Microsoft Edge? In this blog post, we’ll show you how to change your default web browser on a Mac.

  1. Open System Preferences. You can do this by clicking on the Apple logo in the top left corner of your screen and selecting “System Preferences.”
  2. Click on the “General” preference pane.
  3. In the “Default web browser” drop-down menu, select Microsoft Edge.
  4. Close System Preferences. Your changes will take effect immediately.

That’s all there is to it! Now, whenever you click on a link or try to open a web page, Microsoft Edge will launch instead of Safari.

How to change the default web browser on Mac via “System Preferences”

The first step in making an app your MacBook’s default web browser is to download and install it on your Mac. Once you’ve installed the browser of your choice, follow these instructions to make it your Mac’s default browser.

Mac parental controls, network settings, trackpad settings, and more can all be changed through System Preferences in macOS. System Preferences in Mac OS X let you see and alter the Mac’s default web browser.

  1. Navigate to the Apple menu in the top-left corner of the screen.
  2. Take a look at the menu and select System Preferences.
  3. Double-click General in the left pane to reveal its contents.
  4. Find the Default web browser section in the General pane of the application. The current default browser is shown in the box to the right.
  5. Select the browser you want to use as your default from the expanded list by tapping the box next to Default web browser.

Setting your Mac browser as your default browser is a simple process

As an alternative, you can make the selected browser your default by going into the settings of the browser in question. As a result, links are automatically opened in the browser you’ve selected as your default. In Safari’s settings, you can also change the default browser to Safari.

Mac users can make Google Chrome their default browser.

  1. Open Chrome on your Mac’s browser.
  2. On Chrome’s top toolbar, select Preferences > Chrome.
  3. Find and select the Default browser in the left sidebar of the Settings page.
  4. Make Chrome the default browser by clicking the “Make Default” button on the right side.
  5. When prompted, select Use Chrome to confirm the change.

Make Firefox the default browser on your Macintosh computer

  1. Open Firefox in your Mac’s browser.
  2. From the app’s menu bar, select Firefox > Preferences to customise your browsing experience.
  3. Select the General tab from the left-hand sidebar of the Settings page.
  4. Make use of the Make Default button in the right column of the Startup tab.
  5. When prompted, select Firefox. Afterwards, it informs you that Firefox is currently set as your default browsing program.

Change Mac’s default browser to Safari

  1. Open Safari and choose Safari > Preferences from the menu bar at the top.
  2. Select the first tab called “General” in the new window.
  3. Tap the Set Default button next to “Safari is not your default web browser.”
  4. In the pop-up window, confirm the change.
