TikTok avatars resemble Apple’s Memojis. The app recognises your face and creates an animated avatar that mimics your movements. No news. You can record videos with this virtual character doing your job. Now you can make TikToks even if you haven’t been to the bathroom yet. Some parents will be glad that their teen no longer has to perform in their clips.
24 avatars are premade. Most of us will probably create our own. Change skin colour, mouth, nose, eyes, headgear, and jewellery. Some hairstyles seem fake and plastic. TikTok says it will consider user feedback and update avatars.
The new filter can be found under TikTok’s effects. You’ll also find Avatar, which leads to TikTok Avatars.
You can use avatars to hide your face in videos. After a test phase in spring 2022, all users have had access since June 2022.
This is how you can create your own avatar in TikTok
- Launch the TikTok app.
- To make a new video, tap the Plus icon.
- In the camera window, select Effects.
- Tap the magnifying glass and type Avatars into the search bar.
- Choose the TikTok Avatars result. The corresponding symbol is shown in the screenshot.
- You will now see some avatars that have already been created. At this point, you should bookmark the effect for easier access in the future.
- When you look into the camera, the appropriate selection will be replaced with your face.
- You don’t want to see someone else’s head in your video, of course. So, press the plus sign.
- You can now create your own Avatar.
- Choose one of the pre-made faces in the next window.
- You can then modify the selection to suit your needs. So customise your hair, head dimensions, brows, nose, and more with the tools.
- If your result looks good, click the Done button at the top.
- The avatar is now being created.
Unfortunately, once created, the result cannot be edited again. If you are not completely satisfied, you must recreate your avatar face as described above. In the future, the various processing options will be expanded.
