Finding a gaming laptop is not easy, as many models on the market have unique features and varied looks. Today, we have a traditional laptop for gamers with large dimensions, a large display, rich filling, and a hefty price tag. It’s about OMEN Laptop 15.
|High-performance processor||Average battery life|
|Fast charging support||Fairly heavy|
|Efficient cooling system||Average speakers|
|Excellent display and color gamut|
The laptop comes in a white box with a weighty 200 W power supply. Instructions and other waste paper do not count. Everything is standard.
|OMEN 15 Laptop|
|Model||OMEN 15 Laptop|
|Processor||10th Generation Intel Core i7-10750H2 6-core|
|Graphics||Up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070|
|OS||Windows 10 Home|
|Dimensions||357.9 × 239.7 × 22.5 mm|
The laptop case is made according to all the canons: a dark rectangle, bevels for easy lifting from the table, and a nice diamond-shaped logo, which shimmers with a gradient at different angles of light.
Only the keyboard is available of the backlights – all the power was given to gaming, not decorations. However, there would be no extra backlighting. The body is covered with a pleasant soft-touch coating that willingly collects all fingerprints.
The entire back panel was given for ventilation. She has huge ventilation holes, which are covered with a protective mesh from dust and dirt. The cooling system is also well thought out: five heat pipes are connected between the processor and the video card with heatsinks. Two coolers remove the heat, which sucks in cold air from the bottom and blows all the hot air in different directions.
In ordinary tasks such as chatting on social networks or browsing sites, fans are inaudible. However, when launching AAA projects or professional programs, the noise will be, but not annoying.
The display is supported by hinges that can open 180 degrees. Durable, won’t flex, and hold the screen in position. The only caveat is in the small gap that appears when closed. The screen can flex under pressure and creates a good entrance for dust and other dirt, which can reduce the rigidity of the cover in the future.
Otherwise, there are no complaints about the build quality. Everything was done with high quality and without the slightest creaks.
|Display Features||FHD, 300 Hz, IPS, anti-glare, micro-edge, |
WLED-backlit, 300 nits, 100% sRGB
|Display Resolution||1920 x 1080 pixel|
|Dimension||357.9 × 239.7 × 22.5 mm|
The laptop has an IPS matrix with a resolution of 1920 × 1080 with a refresh rate of 300 Hz and support for NVIDIA G-Sync. Glare is practically invisible, and all thanks to the semi-matt protective layer. The brightness is 300 cd / m²; the contrast is about 1200: 1.
The bezels around the display are thin, except for the lower chin on which the brand’s name flaunts. At the top is a 720p webcam and microphones. It may be possible to conduct a full-fledged stream, but it will clearly fall short of a professional level. Rather, it is intended for negotiations with teammates on Discord and then if there is no suitable headset.
|Processor||Intel Core i7 10750H 2600MHz|
|Graphics||NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super Max-Q (8GB)|
|RAM||16 GB DDR4 2933 MHz|
|Storage||SSD 1024 GB|
Responsible for performance is a six-core Intel Core i7 10750H processor manufactured using a 14-nanometer process technology and operating at a frequency of 2.6 GHz. Still, if this is not enough, you can always overclock via Turbo Boost up to 5 GHz and in 12 threads – up to 4.6 GHz. At the same time, the cooling works great, and even in stress tests, six cores operate at a frequency of 4.3-4.5 GHz without throttling. In most tasks, the CPU does not heat up above 80 degrees.
As much as 16 GB of RAM type DDR4 2933 MHz. An SSD with a capacity of 1024 GB is used for data storage, but if this is not enough, you can install another SSD. For graphics, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super Max-Q with 8 GB onboard is used.
The RTX 2070 Super Max-Q graphics card performs well in games. At base FHD resolution, the laptop can deliver up to 90 frames per second at high settings in almost all popular projects. For example, Overwatch produces stable 150-180 frames per second. As for Cyberpunk 2077 on high graphics presets, you can play, but once you activate RTX with DLSS, the frequency starts jumping from 30 to 50 frames. It’s more about optimizing the game itself than about the device.
|Webcam||Above the display|
|Webcam resolution||HP Wide Vision HD Camera|
|Audio||Audio by Bang & Olufsen with dual speakers|
|Network||Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11ax|
|Ports||USB 3.1 Type-A x 3, HDMI output, Mini DisplayPort output, |
Thunderbolt 3, microphone / headphone Combo, Ethernet – RJ-45,
There are more than enough connectors. On the left, there is a gigabit LAN, HDMI 2.0, USB 3.2, a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack, and even a card reader for SD cards. Right – Mini DisplayPort, USB Type-C, and two USB 3.2. Such a rich set allows you to connect a mouse or flash drive and broadcast to multiple monitors.
Built-in two speakers produce clear sound with a good maximum volume. This is not to say that deep bass is given out, but suitable for watching movies.
The membrane keyboard has a pleasant stroke but is noisy. The full-size hands were placed on the right, which is a definite plus. There is no separate digital block. The power button will take some getting used to because it was tucked between F12 and Delete, which seems like a controversial decision. Also, the manufacturer provided for a moment with an accidental pressing and made protection – to turn on or off the PC; you need to hold down the button for at least 2 seconds.
The touchpad measures 115×74 mm has a pleasant response, and is slightly offset into the body. There is no plastic feel and no control problems.
The built-in keyboard backlight is fully customizable to the user’s taste through the proprietary Game Center application, launched with a special button on the keyboard.
However, there are many interesting things in this same application. For example, it can reduce the noise and heating of the video card. In addition, the computer can do this on its own and select an acceptable voltage level.
|Battery type||6-cell, Li-ion polymer|
|Battery capacity||70.9 Wh|
|AC Adapter||200 W Smart AC power adapter|
In offline mode, the laptop can withstand up to 6 hours, but that’s if you just read websites or watch TV shows without much work. The nice thing is that the included 200W power adapter has support for fast charging.
OMEN 15 turned out to be a rather large but powerful device for games and everyday tasks. It has a quality build, great hardware, a great display, and a huge variety of ports. It is also worth paying attention to flexible settings through a proprietary application and an effective solution with a cooling system.
This laptop is recommended for gamers and users who have to work with professional software for video editing or 3D modeling. Such a device will last a long time and will obviously not limit the capabilities of its owner.
