The Apple Watch Series 7 and Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, two advanced smartwatches with much to offer, now face each other in this comparison to measure forces. The first is the newest, a few weeks after being announced, while the other arrived in August of this year. Both are among the complete today, both in terms of features and technical specifications and functions. That is why now faces are seen, to demonstrate which is better and why. We analyze them!
To begin with, the Apple Watch Series 7, recently, is the new smartwatch from the Cupertino firm and, therefore, the most advanced in its catalog. This smartwatch comes with several improvements over the Apple Watch Series 6 that we make clear in this article, and that is why it is one of the best options in the current market.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, for its part, is also the best Samsung smartwatch. By far, it is also equipped with qualities that make it another of the best and most complete alternatives today, both for having a design very well worked and elegant as for being a watch that competes directly with the Apple as mentioned earlier Watch.
|Samsung Galaxy Watch 4||Apple Watch Series 7|
|Crisp, vibrant OLED display||Big screen is more user-friendly|
|Touch-sensitive rotating bezel||watchOS 8 is powerful|
|Good fitness/sleep tracker||QWERTY keyboard|
|Concerns with BIA sensor||No Qi charging|
|One-day battery life||One-day battery life|
The first thing to highlight about both wearables is the design section. The Apple Watch Series 7, as in past generations, has the same rectangular format as always, which is what we are used to. Of course, this watch comes with fewer screen frames than before, so its full-screen design is now more striking, having quite reduced edges. From the rest, we get practically identical:
- Interchangeable straps.
- The usual crown.
- The slot for the eSIM.
- An aspect that is generally the same, both elegant and sophisticated and casual and sporty.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, on the other hand, has a circular format, like other previous models of the South Korean firm. Of course, this smartwatch changes in several aspects. Its predecessor, the Galaxy Watch 3, is more stylish and elegant, but without leaving the sporty aside, with a watch face with reduced frames and well-polished sides. With various buttons.
Moving on to the issue of screens, we find several differences between the two smartwatches. And it is that the Apple Watch Series 7 has a screen that consists of a diagonal of about 2.1 inches approximately-This data has not been specified by Apple-, being more prominent than that of the Galaxy Watch 4, which is 1.4 inches in the 46 mm version and 1.2 inches in the 42 mm version. At the same time, the panel of the former is of retina OLED technology. It has a resolution of 448 x 360 pixels, while that of the Samsung watch is of Super AMOLED technology and consists of a resolution of 450 x 450 pixels. In addition, in both cases, we have color screens, touch screens, and 2.5D borders. The other thing is that both are protected with resistant glasses that stand up to scratches, bumps, falls, and all kinds of abuse.

In terms of performance, the Apple series 7 comes with 64-bit dual-core processor is a chip choice to live under the hood of the Apple Watch Series 6. The Exynos W920, on the other hand, is aimed at the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4. Both one and the other consist of dual cores and architecture. 64-bit, being quite solvent to run any app and task fluently. Of course, for storage, the Apple Watch is better, as it comes with an internal memory of 32 GB, which is double that offered by the Galaxy Watch 4 since the smartwatch has a ROM of 16 GB. They both support the storage of music, apps, pictures, and more.
In the connectivity section, there are no significant differences. They coincide the most, so much so that they share all the available options that we can find in an advanced and high-caliber smartwatch-like these, which leaves us with support for 4G LTE networks, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth. 5.0, integrated GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and NFC for making contactless payments. Apple Pay is available on the Apple Watch Series 7 and Samsung Pay on the Galaxy Watch 4.
Now, something that these smartwatches do not lack, but, on the contrary, they have a lot to boast about, is their sensors and monitors. And it is that both one and the other come with an ECG monitor capable of detecting and monitoring the heart rate and abnormalities related to atrial fibrillation. Both also come with a blood oxygen level measurement sensor and features that allow recording the user’s sleep quality and more.
The two also boast a barometric altimeter, gyroscope, accelerometer, and ambient light sensor. For the rest, they come with numerous functions that allow you to know the distance traveled, calories burned, steps taken, and more. Both can also detect multiple sports and track cycling, swimming, running, and outdoor leisure activities.
As for the battery, the Apple Watch Series 7 loses, having autonomy of up to 1 day on average. The Galaxy Watch 4, on the other hand, is capable of reaching a battery life of up to 1 week, being the winner in this section.

Features of these smartwatches include water resistance, fall detection function, emergency calls, weather forecast function, notifications for both calls and messages and applications, and more. Of course, only the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 has MIL-STD-810G military-grade resistance, so it has durability far superior to that of the Apple Watch Series 7. Of the rest, the first has Siri as a voice assistant, while the second has Samsung’s Bixby. You also have to acknowledge that the Apple Watch comes with watchOS 8 and the Galaxy Watch 4 with Wear OS powered by Samsung.

The price of the Apple Watch Series 7 starts at 420 USD officially. Samsung, for its part, launched the Galaxy Watch 4 from about 250 USD in the smallest variant and without 4G LTE connectivity.
Finally, it is worth noting that we have two of the most complete and advanced smartwatches of the moment. It is difficult to determine which is better and why since each has its strengths and advantages. However, we rate the Apple Watch Series 7 as the winner of this comparison for having a larger screen and more storage space.
Of course, the Galaxy Watch 4 is a better option if you want a cheaper watch and with practically everything that the Apple Watch offers, with an addition that includes military-grade resistance, more battery, and more customization options.
Best Smartwatches for Seniors
Smartwatches and bracelets are convenient, and most importantly, handy gadgets that allow you to monitor your health effectively. They can be used to monitor heart rate, blood oxygen levels, body temperature, and even sleep quality. The best models detect deviations from the norm and can also offer a solution to the problem. All this is very important for the elderly, especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Manufacturers are trying to add as many useful functions as possible to smartwatches and bracelets, making it difficult to manage them. Savvy users can grasp new technologies quickly, but for older people, it can be not easy. We have selected several models that, in my opinion, are suitable for older people both in terms of capabilities and ease of operation.
Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 6
The main advantages of these smart bracelets are their effortless operation, have good screen brightness, and relatively low cost. At the same time, it helps to keep track of health and tracks the overall level of physical activity. With moderate use, the bracelet can last up to 14 days on a single charge.
The sixth version of the Xiaomi Mi Smart Band has a larger screen compared to the fifth version and, thanks to the increased size, the font is better to read. The updated version of the alarm clock can now be configured directly on the bracelet itself without using the application, which is also very convenient.
By default, the bracelet comes with several convenient dials that are very easy to switch and customize. There are customizable widgets on modular watch faces and the main part of the screen, where the time is usually displayed. With the help of widgets, it is easy to display a variety of indicators on display yourself, for example, heart rate, number of steps, weather, or oxygen level in the blood. In addition, the bracelet can track stress levels and monitor sleep quality. During a street walk, the system will inform you about the level of humidity, UV intensity, and air quality.
The measurement of the personal activity index deserves a separate mention. The bracelet tracks the user’s actions for several days and converts all the information received into one standard indicator. Such information helps to adhere to a certain rhythm of life and always stay in good shape, which is always very important for an older person.

HONOR Band 6
The HONOR Band 6 is a direct competitor to the Xiaomi Band 6, which we reviewed above. Both bracelets have a very similar feature set and similar tracking capabilities for health and activity levels. However, there is also a difference between gadgets.
If the model from Xiaomi, due to its narrow screen, completely follows the canons of the classic architecture of bracelets, then the HONOR Band 6 can be called a transitional option. It has a wider display, due to which the gadget looks larger, and there is a mechanical button on the body that helps to control some functions. In this design, the tracker is even more familiar to the elderly.
The HONOR Band 6 is equipped with sensors that measure heart rate and blood oxygen levels. The system records estimated calorie consumption, monitors stress levels and sleep quality, counts steps, and collects weather information. The bracelet allows you to control music, set the alarm, and send messages about incoming calls.
Nevertheless, there is no way to answer voice calls, and there is no GPS tracker that allows you to control the user’s movement without using a smartphone. Another disadvantage of the HONOR Band 6 compared to the Xiaomi model is the smaller choice of installed watch faces. Some versions of the dials are paid at all.
In terms of cost, the HONOR Band 6 is comparable to the model from Xiaomi, but in terms of usability, it slightly outperforms its main competitor due to the more comprehensive screen.

Canyon Lemongrass Smartwatch SW-70
The Lemongrass CNS-SW70 model is recommended if you need a spectacular and, at the same time, inexpensive gadget with good functionality. The cost of this smartwatch is comparable to the cost of the Band 6 fitness bracelets from Xiaomi and HONOR.
The main advantage of the Canyon Lemongrass CNS-SW70 is its stylish design. The slim round dial is secured on a beautiful metal strap with a magnetic buckle. The IPS screen in sunlight is not as bright as the AMOLED displays on the Band 6 fitness trackers, but the values are quite distinguishable. Even though the clock’s shape is round, the display area on the screen is square. Users often criticize this decision; however, the design of the dials takes this feature into account, and watches with the screen turned on do not lose their presentability.
In terms of the set of functions, the Canyon Lemongrass CNS-SW70 watch resembles a classic fitness tracker: it measures the heart rate, counts the number of steps, the number of calories burned, and tracks the overall level of physical activity. They have a smart alarm and sleep monitoring mode. As for the quality of measurements, it, like in many inexpensive models, has some errors that should take into account. With moderate use, the watch can last up to four days on a single charge.
The Canyon Lemongrass CNS-SW70 watch is well suited for seniors who value design. In addition, this model is an inexpensive chronometer that helps the user effectively monitor their health, which is why it enjoys a certain popularity.
HUAWEI WATCH GT 2 Pro
The HUAWEI WATCH GT 2 Pro smartwatch is one of the best Android models in the premium segment. The main advantages of this gadget are its spectacular design, excellent screen, and case protection, long battery life, and the ability to answer phone calls. In addition, it contains all the most essential functions to keep track of your health and physical activity. It is also easy to operate the watch, thanks to which it may well become a suitable replacement for ordinary wristwatches.
It’s hard to find fault with the appearance of the HUAWEI WATCH GT 2 Pro. They not only look beautiful but, in all respects, fully correspond to a premium smart chronometer. The case is made of durable titanium alloy. The part where the watch touches the hand has a ceramic insert. The strap is made of genuine leather. The display is covered with a sapphire crystal, which is well protected from scratches.
Good battery life is another important plus of this model. With moderate use, the watch can last up to 14 days, but one charge is often enough for about 11-12 days.
HUAWEI WATCH GT 2 Pro can measure heart rate, blood oxygen levels, count steps, and monitor sleep quality. They have a barometer and an intelligent alarm clock; the watch synchronizes with a wireless Bluetooth headset and allows you to listen to music while walking, even if the phone is left at home. And most importantly, this watch has a compass and a GPS tracker. Older people on tourist trips and during out-of-town walks come in handy with the function of moving on the return route. To find your way home, you need to move in the direction indicated by the clock.

Apple watch series 6
Smartwatches Apple watch series 6 can be recommended to happy iPhone owners. Compared to the fifth, the sixth version slightly added to the set of functions, so owners of Apple watch series 5 or even Apple watch series 4 do not need to change their gadget. Of the exciting innovations, we can only note the emerging sensor for measuring the oxygen level in the blood and a reduction in the charging time by about 20 percent. The design of the sixth version has hardly undergone any changes, except that models in blue and red have been added.
Nevertheless, suppose we compare the Apple watch series 6 with any other smartwatch in terms of convenience and the number of valuable functions. In that case, they leave far behind all their closest competitors. Suffice it to say that in order to operate this chronometer, an older person does not need to figure out how to turn on or off one mode or another. The watch supports the voice assistant Siri, which means that you can control all functions just with your voice.
In Apple watch series 6, heart rate and blood oxygen levels are measured not by pressing buttons but in a continuous mode, which allows you to build a full ECG throughout the day and monitor breathing without interruption. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is difficult to overestimate the usefulness of such features. The system monitors physical activity, sleep quality, and calories burned. The watch has a light sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope, and altimeter.
The only drawback of Apple technology is its high cost, which fully applies to the Apple watch series 6. However, we can confidently say that this watch will last for many years with careful handling, and its benefits for an older person will be invaluable.

Fitbit Charge 5 vs Fitbit Charge 4: Which is Better
After a series of leaks, Fitbit has announced a new generation of Fitbit Charge 5 fitness bracelets. This is the first wristband made by Fitbit since Google acquired it. Due to the relatively high cost and low availability of Fitbit fitness bracelets, devices from this line are not very popular in our market. Nevertheless, we decided to compare Fitbit Charge 5 and Fitbit Charge 4, find out how they differ, and it is worth selling your Charge 4 and ordering a fifth-generation tracker. Let’s start with the comparison with the main technical characteristics.

Over the years, since the first tracker in the Charge family came out, Fitbit has followed the same design. So, to find the external difference between the Charge 4 and its predecessor Charge 3 is quite difficult. The new Fitbit Charge 5 has received the most noticeable design change since the first generation.
Fitbit Charge 5 received smoother lines and rounded design, became a little thinner and more comfortable than its predecessors. Charge 4 measures 35.8 mm x 22.7 mm x 12.5 mm, while Charge 5 measures 36.78 mm x 22.79 mm x 11.2 mm. That is, Charge 5 is slightly larger, but thinner by almost 10%
Fitbit Charge 5 and Charge 4 lack a mechanical button on the case. But, instead of the usual control, the fourth generation tracker has small notches on the sides; when pressed, the tracker is activated (capacitive button). The metal inserts on the sides of the Charge 5 can also be mistaken for a capacitive button, but they are ECG sensor electrodes. All control is carried out using the touch screen.
Both fitness trackers are water-resistant to 50 meters and come with large and small straps. The Charge 4 is available in black, blue, Rosewood, and a particular version with a black case and fabric strap. The Charge 5 is available in black, silver, and gold.
The hook Type of the strap has changed. Now it is not a classic clasp but a “tip-in” pin clasp.
The display is the second major update after the design. The new generation, unlike the Charge 4, which has a monochrome OLED grayscale screen, has a color AMOLED display with higher resolution and brightness. The Charge 5’s 1.04-inch screen with a maximum brightness of 450 nits is 10% more than its predecessor (Charge 4’s brightness is 200 nits). Its resolution is 260 x 170 pixels, versus 160 x 100 pixels for the previous model.
Fitbit Charge 5 has an Always-on Display feature and an ambient light sensor to adjust brightness automatically.
In terms of sensors, the Charge 4 features a 3-axis accelerometer, PPG optical heart rate sensor, SpO2 sensor, altimeter, skin temperature sensor, and built-in GPS for more accurate tracking of outdoor activities like running and cycling.
The Charge 5 has all of the above equipment except the altimeter. Perhaps they abandoned it because users often complained about its accuracy. But this is just our guess.
The new 5 series comes with electrocardiogram (ECG) sensors and an electrodermal activity sensor. The latter allows you to assess the body’s response to stress. Also, both models are equipped with an NFC module for contactless payment (Fitbit Pay payment system).
|Heart rate monitor||Yes||Yes|
|Stress level tracker||Yes||No|
Both generations of a fitness bracelet can perform the following functions:
- Sleep Score;
- Smart alarm clock (Smart Wake);
- Monitoring of multiple sports modes (indoor and outdoor);
- 24/7 heart rate measurement (PurePulse); Determination of the level of blood oxygen saturation (SpO2);
- Call and message notifications with support for fast message reply;
- Control of menstrual cycles; Activity reminders; Spotify Music Play Control Connect & Control;
- Heatmaps of workouts (after a run, a route map with heart rate zones for each leg of the route will be available)
The Charge 5 has several new features:
- Daily Readiness Score. This functionality is only available with the purchase of a paid Fitbit Premium subscription ($ 10 per month). Depending on the user’s activity, sleep duration, and heart rate, the bracelet will offer a more intense or light workout.
- ECG recording function to evaluate the work of the heart and detect signs of atrial fibrillation. To take readings, you need to touch the conductive inserts on the ends of the case with your fingers.
- Determination of stress levels with electrodermal activity sensors (EDA)
The rest of the functionality of this pair of trackers is almost identical.
For Charge 5 and Charge 4, the manufacturer claims the same autonomy. The battery charges to 100% in about 2 hours, and one charge will last up to 7 days of use. With GPS always on, the charge lasts for 5 hours.
When you enable the Always-on Display function, the Charge 5 will work without charging for about 2 days
The Charge 5 was priced at $ 179.95, which is $ 30 more than the Charge 4 was priced at when it was announced. Usually, soon after a new version is released, Fitbit and most retailers will drop the price of the previous generation. That is, you can expect that the difference in cost will soon be $ 40 – 50.
The main improvements to the Charge 5 are a more modern design, color AMOLED display, ECG, and electrodermal activity sensors. If you can come to terms with the lack of all of the above, selling your Charge 4 is probably not worth it.
Amazfit GTR 3 Pro vs Amazfit GTR 3: Premium Smartwatch Comparision
The Amazfit GTR 3, the GTR 3 Pro, and the GTS 3 are already the third generation of the successful model series. After many rumors in the last few weeks, the smartwatches have finally been officially presented.
As always, Huami, as the responsible manufacturer of the Amazfit Smartwatches, presented three model versions of the GT Smartwatches, which differ in appearance and equipment. To keep an overview, we want to compare the three clocks in a nutshell right from the start.
If you compare the essential specifications with each other, the watches are pretty similar overall. Only on closer inspection do you find apparent differences.
The two GTR versions come with a round watch case, while the GTS version has a square design.
The materials used were made of aluminum and plastic, which were neatly and well processed. You don’t even want to give the impression that these are premium smartwatches, but instead, they are modern-looking and solid watches at an attractive price.
The three model versions are offered in different colors
- Amazfit GTR 3 Pro in black with a fluoroelastomer strap and brown with a leather strap
- Amazfit GTR in black and moon gray
- Amaztfit GTS in graphite black, ivory white, and terra rosa

The display an excellent AMOLED touch screen was built in, which impresses with its high resolution and excellent color rendering.
The clocks are primarily operated with swiping gestures and tapping, but buttons on the side complement the operating concept. Interestingly, the top button is a rotating crown with which you can scroll through the various menus and functions.
We already know something similar from the Coros Pace 2, where the feature didn’t convince me, and I hardly used it.
The two GTR versions are equipped with a 450 mAh battery; the GTS was only enough for a 250 mAh energy cell. Although the GTR Smartwatches have the same battery, the runtimes differ considerably in some cases. This is due, among other things, to the larger display and the more extensive technical equipment of the GTR Pro. More on that later.
Overall, the stated battery runtimes are quite decent, although a bit of caution is advised here. After all, these are manufacturer specifications that are usually quite optimistic.
Fitness and health
You will find the usual essential equipment in this area consisting of step counting, distance covered, calorie consumption, and sleep monitoring. The PAI system typical of Amazfit for recording and evaluating all activities is also on board.
A significant innovation is a SpO2 measurement, which is now carried out permanently throughout the day. Another new function is the 4 in 1 size. The essential vital values such as heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, breathing rate, and stress ( heart rate variability ) are measured for 45 seconds, and the data is immediately shown on display.
Garmin has introduced a similar function with the Health SnapShot on the Garmin Venu 2.
In terms of fitness, the number of available sport profiles has been increased to 150 modes, with 8 activities being recognized automatically.
In addition to the integrated GPS, the three watches with the Biotracker 3.0 PPG have also been given the latest generation of heart rate sensors.
Also included is a small but delicate training analysis, which, in addition to the VO2max, provides information on training load, training effect, and expected recovery time.
The GT smartwatches from Amazfit are smartwatches. After all, they can offer some exciting features
- Incoming call and message notifications
- Calendar, tasks, and notes
- Stopwatch, alarm, world clock, Pomodoro timer
- Weather, compass
- Flashlight, find my phone, camera control,
- Watch faces
- Compatible with Strava, Apple Health, Google fit, Runkeeper
In addition, the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro is equipped with a music player, including 2.3 GB of memory (space for around 500 song titles). There is also a microphone, speaker on the clock, so calls can be received with the smartphone even when the Bluetooth connection is active.
The Amazfit GTR 3 Pro costs 200 USD, the Amazfit GTR 3 will be available for 150 USD, and the Amazfit GTS 3 will also cost 145 USD.
If you compare the current smartwatches with their predecessors, we are dealing more with cautious development than with something revolutionary new. Above all, however, the first reviews and test reports show that the software is not yet fully developed. So you have to reckon with the fact that the clock will get stuck when you call up a function or while scrolling.
The accuracy of the various measurements should also still have room for improvement. So Huami would be well advised to roll out some updates as soon as possible to get these problems under control. Once you’ve done that, you can offer great smartwatches at an attractive price.
