Asus has officially launched the sixth generation of one of the most distinctive and powerful gaming smartphones each year, the ASUS ROG Phone 6, and its ROG Phone 6 Pro variant. In addition to the expected performance jumps that it achieves thanks to being one of the first terminals with Qualcomm’s powerful Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, the enhanced version of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the ROG Phone 6 comes with several surprises with which ASUS wants to reaffirm its position in the market of terminals for gamers.

First, we will comment on the differences between the ROG Phone 6 and the Pro variant, which are mainly two. On the one hand, the ROG Phone 6 comes in variants of 12 GB and 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM along with 256 and 512 GB of internal UFS3.1 memory, while the ASUS ROG Phone 6 Pro offers 18 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and will only be available with 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

The triangular column shape is maintained on the boxed ROG Phone 6 Pro, which also makes extensive use of line design. Additionally, the word “06” is written in the box’s corner, echoing the ROG Phone 6 series of cell phones. The bottom cover of the box can be removed horizontally using a tenon there (as shown in the following group photo). When you open it, the body of the phone is visible. The bottom area of the mobile phone is where the boxed accessories are primarily kept; the boxed bottom cover. When setting up the ROG Phone 6 series for the first time, a small card can be used to view AR short videos.

Difference between ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro

The rear is where the other difference can be seen. The ASUS ROG Phone 6 Pro has a “ROG Vision” color PMOLED screen that allows you to add custom texts and logos in addition to displaying information about notifications, modes, games, and much more. The ROG Phone 6 has an area with the ROG logo illuminated with RGB colors.

The “Phantom Black” and “Aurora White” color options for the ROG Phone 6 are both available. The contrasted color design of black with red and white with blue differs from that of the previous generation. The former is decorated with red, while the latter is decorated with blue. The ROG Phone 5 is identical.

The “Aurora White” color option for the ROG Phone 6 Pro is the only one offered, and both the touch and color of the glass back cover are identical to those of the ROG Phone 5 Ultimate.

The back cover of the ROG Phone 6 series is specially designed with RGB lighting effects for the words “Dare to Play“.

ROG Phone 6 can display the “Eye of Faith” gesture through the RGB lighting effect module on the back cover, but because of its small size, even the “Eye of Faith” can only be pressed.

The ROG Vision on the back cover of the ROG Phone 6 Pro adopts a color PMOLED screen design, and more than 60 animation effects have been newly added. The related gameplay is the same as that of the ROG Phone 5s Pro.

In addition to the phone body, there are 65W chargers, dual USB-C transmission lines, card ejection pins, ROG cards, and Aero protective shells. It is worth noting that ASUS did not integrate the aerodynamic fan with the phone box this time. Put them together but use a separate package (optional or can participate in pre-order for free), so when players start the ROG Phone 6 series mobile phone out of the box, it is normal if you don’t see the fan in the box. Others include ROG peripheral stickers and side port plug sleeves, and this generation has also been cancelled.

Display

The ROG Phone 6 series continues with the 6.78-inch Samsung AMOLED screen with a ratio of 20.4:9. Since it does not have any digging holes and bangs, the visual experience is very complete; the upgrade provides a 165Hz screen update rate, a 720Hz touch sampling rate, and a touch response time. can be reduced to a minimum of 23ms. The ROG Phone 6 series has a total of 60Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz, 144Hz, and 165Hz update rates. After the automatic update rate is turned on, the standby state provides a 60Hz update rate, and the sliding screen will reach a 120Hz update rate.

The front of the ROG Phone 6 series is covered with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Victus glass, which makes it feel a little top-heavy to hold with one hand.

The ROG Phone 6 series screen has 111% DCI-P3, Delta-E 1, supports the HDR10+ display standard, and the color of the screen is quite pleasing.

The ROG Phone 6 series adopts a white-light screen fingerprint recognition scheme, which can record up to five sets of fingerprint information.

Camera

The camera has been upgraded to Sony IMX766, whichscene,ROG Phone 6 series rear triple-lens main camera. Although the main lens has been reduced from 64 million pixels to 50 million pixels, the sensor has been upgraded to Sony IMX766, which supports 8K 24fps video recording and has professional photography, professional video, night scene, and other modes. Others use a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and a 5-megapixel macro lens. The front camera officially abandoned the 24-megapixel lens and replaced it with a 12-megapixel lens with a Sony IMX663 sensor, which supports portrait beauty and face unlock functions.

Speaker

For sound effects, the ROG Phone 6 series provides dual front stereo speakers and a 3.5mm headphone jack, which can satisfy you whether you are an external speaker or a headphone party. The dual 12x16mm speakers are matched with Hi-Res Audio and Dirac sound effects. The bass is a bit lacking; the 3.5mm headphone jack has a built-in 15V smart-enhanced Class-D Cirrus Logic CS35L45 audio amplifier. Equipped with Qualcomm aptX Adaptive technology, it can enjoy high sound quality and low latency performance with Bluetooth headphones.

The external speaker experience of the ROG Phone 6 series dual speakers is very good, but the bass performance is a bit weak.

The actual measured maximum volume of the ROG Phone 6 Pro at a distance of about 20 cm was measured at 91.7dB.

Battery

The ROG Phone 6 series adopts a mid-structure motherboard + dual-cell architecture design, built-in 6,000mAh power, supports 65W fast charging, and does not have Qi wireless charging function through PD3.0 and QC5.0 fast charging protocols.

Connectivity

The ROG Phone 6 series adopts a double-sided nano-SIM card slot, supports 5G + 5G dual card dual standby, does not have a memory card expansion function, and has built-in Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, etc.

The ROG Phone 6 series has changed the side port design once again. After years of exploration, ASUS finally decided to keep only the USB-C port, so the “USB-C” that debuted on the ROG Phone 5 series, previously “metal contact” design, ultimately ended in failure. However, this time with the USB-C side port, I think it is a very good choice. First, it is easier to equip game accessories (don’t worry about the metal contact breaking problem), and secondly, the plug sleeve of the side port is no longer needed.

The USB-C on the side of the ROG Phone 6 series provides USB3.1 Gen2, DisplayPort 1.4 (4K resolution transmission), HDMI Output, QC3.0, QC5.0, and PD3.0 fast charging protocols; the USB-C at the bottom has USB2.0, QC3.0, and PD3.0 fast charging protocols.

The right side of the ROG Phone 6 series retains two sets of AirTrigger 6 ultrasonic touch keys, and 9 new gestures are added, providing 20 game control gestures.

For cooling, the ASUS AeroActive Cooler 6 combines a fan and a peliter cell.

The modular gamepad, Nintendo switch-style, and ROG Kunai III that we previously saw with the previous model are still supported. There are also protective covers and tempered glass options. The active cooling module, now known as the ASUS AeroActive Cooler 6, is the accessory that is most novel.

This accessory is an evolution of the cooling modules found on earlier ROG phones, keeping the fan but featuring a new look with RGB lighting. However, it now has a thermoelectric Peltier cell, a device that uses electricity to allow a plate to cool on one side.

The AeroActive Cooler 6 can cool ROG Phone 6 more quickly when used in conjunction with the fan. In fact, it has a special mode that requires the charger and applies the most cooling power, even though it operates without the need for external power.

Additionally, it has a tab to position the mobile horizontally and four levers to make the game easier. An add-on item called the AeroActive Cooler 6 costs $89.99 USD.

Conclusion!

The appearance of the ROG Phone 6 series mainly continues the design language of the previous generation. The big RGB “Eye of Faith” can no longer be seen on the back cover. It is difficult to associate with ROG for the first time, which is a pity. In addition, almost every generation of ROG Phone adjusts the design of the “side port,” which also means that the related accessories cannot continue to be used. Follow the design smoothly to create a more complete ecosystem of game accessories.
