SteelSeries Arctis 9

In terms of performance, we had no problems of interference or loss of connection; except when we were at great distances (> 10 meters) with walls in between. On the other hand, when it comes to battery, the brand advertises 20 hours of continuous use, something that in fact seemed to correspond to us.

Finally, another interesting feature of this headset is that we can use the 2.4GHz connection at the same time using the Bluetooth connection. This allows you to be connected to the PC and the mobile phone at the same time, listening to the audio of both simultaneously.

SteelSeries Arctis 7

According to SteelSeries, the headphones have the same technology as many other headphones that cost $ 220. We don’t know, but what we can tell you is that its quality is impressive. Great sound, in all respects, and the best: fully customizable. Its battery is very durable, they are wireless and the position of the buttons is ergonomic.

In addition to its sound, its design is also customizable. If you want you can buy different ski bands, ear muffs, bags to carry headphones and even a stand. Extras that not all brands have for their devices. In short, one of the most complete and customizable headphones that exist at the moment.

The Arctis range of headsets is made up of three models: Arctis 3, Arctis 5 and Arctis 7. The Arctis 7 are the only wireless helmets of the three, but also the most resistant, once they have the upper part in aluminium. So the question you must ask yourself is: is it worth paying more for these headphones when they all have the same sound quality?

The answer is yes, if you want wireless headphones, with better finishes and with ChatMix. They are somewhat expensive, to be honest, but perhaps they will suit you, especially if you are an online game player and you usually play as a team with active chat.

The SteelSeries Arctis 9 Wireless gaming headset maintain the characteristic design of the more expensive models of the Arctis line; which hasn’t evolved much since 2016. Like the brand’s wireless headphones, the build quality of these is superior to wired ones. Since they use top quality materials, such as metal on the upper edge.

Fans of RGB lighting will be disappointed to learn that it doesn’t exist on the Arctis 9. Something as it saves battery life, saves weight, and makes them look even “cleaner.”

On the back of the left earpiece we find the volume control for the ChatMix function, and on the front, the retractable microphone.

The edge of the upper part of this gaming headset is metal, which gives a very pleasant feeling in terms of quality and robustness. In addition, the pressure exerted on the head is not exaggerated, which is usually a problem in helmets with this construction. There is also a rubber strap that covers the interior for added comfort.

The head suspension system is something SteelSeries has been using since its first headset; So it is not surprising that the Arctis 9 Wireless gaming headsets are very comfortable. So much so that you will forget that you have them in your head, even after long gaming sessions. The elastic band can be adjusted according to the user’s preferences, And it can also be purchased with other patterns and colors on the brand’s website.

The pads used are made of a material that the brand calls “airweave”. These are the same that are used in all the other headsets of the brand. They are good pads that do not heat the ears and maintain a good level of acoustic insulation.

SteelSeries Arctis 7

Let’s start with the first thing that caught our attention, its design. They are the beautiful headset, not only because of their metal construction and curved design but also because of the immense customization. If you wish, you can change the earmuffs for leather ones, for example, or change the Ski goggles band (headband) for another that more represents your style. You can also buy a bag to carry the helmets, a filter for the microphone and even a holder for the helmets. Many things that other brands do not put at your disposal.

The headset is very round, space is very well used and they are ergonomic. The left hull is the same as the Arctis 5, with the exception that it does not have RGB lighting. But in relation to the position of the buttons, it is identical: button to activate and deactivate the microphone, increase or decrease the volume, connector for mobile devices, 3.5mm Jack to share audio and the micro-USB connector. On the right side, we already have the first differences between these models: the button to activate or deactivate the helmets and the Chat Mix Dial.

The headphones weigh 371g, which isn’t much really. The weight is balanced, and you don’t feel a lot of weight on your head.

The SteelSeries Arctis 9 Wireless gaming headsets are equipped with 40mm drivers, with a response frequency of 20 to 20,000 Hz. These are the same as those used in the rest of the Arctis line.

Being a wireless headset, there is always the fear that the audio quality and overall performance will be inferior to the wired versions. However, we use the Arctis 9 Wireless gaming headsets in various scenarios and find the audio quality to be good and fairly balanced overall. Although the EQ profile that is configured by default may not be the preferred one for some people.

As for the 7.1 audio (DTS Headphone: X v2.0), it is a feature that only works on the PC and we do not use it most of the time. Even so, we believe that it can be useful in some specific cases, such as in the games of the Battlefield saga; where we get to make the audio a little more enveloping.

The connectivity of the Arctis 9 Wireless gaming headsets presents two forms of connection, Wireless 2.4GHz and Bluetooth. This makes them compatible with practically any device: PC / Mac, Nintendo, mobile devices, and also the new Playstation 5 (supports 3D audio); which places them as one of the best PS5 gaming helmets of 2021.

The Arctis 9 gaming headset dongle has some extra features, and in addition to being a wireless transmitter/receiver, it has two 3.5mm Jack connectors; one for the output and one for the audio input. The audio out function allows you to connect a speaker directly to the dongle. This causes the audio to automatically switch from the speaker to the headset when it is turned on and vice-versa when the headphones are turned off.

The sound is loud, but the quality is surprising. Its bass is very good, something doesn’t usually see in low / mid-range wireless headphones. The SteelSeries Engine 3, the brand’s peripherals management program, allows many parameters of the Arctis 7 to be modifiedModifying different parameters allows the audio emitted by these headsets to shine and be distinguished from other gaming helmets.

If you want to listen to music, you can alter many parameters, or choose one of the SteelSeries defaults. You can change different parameters in the equalizer, modify dynamic range compression, activate mic feedback, change mic volume, and activate mic preview. After changing them, you can save the settings and create as many profiles as you want.

Conclusion!

SteelSeries Arctis 9

The Arctis 9 Wireless are basically an upgrade from the Arctis 7, offering Bluetooth connectivity for a small price difference.

They are very balanced gaming helmets in all aspects: they have an excellent build quality and comfort, a very balanced audio quality. They also incorporate a good microphone and are compatible with practically all types of devices. On the other hand, they also have additional hard-to-find features, such as the automatic transfer of audio from a device to the headset, the Chatmix (on the PC); or even the possibility of using both means of connection at the same time.

If you want a wireless headset that you can use at all times, and with all your day-to-day devices; Or you just bought a Playstation 5, the Arctis 9 Wireless are one of the best wireless options on the market today. And the best thing is that they come at a price of 235 USD. However, if you think that this is the ideal headset, but you don’t need Bluetooth connectivity, you can always opt for the Arctis 7, at a slightly lower price of 212 USD.

SteelSeries Arctis 7

They fit very well on the head, perhaps too much for some people, that will depend on the tastes of each one and the type of headphones that you are used to.

They are, without a doubt, one of the best gaming headsets of 2017. Its sound, its customization and its microphone are perfect.

Ozone EkhoX40 gaming headphones have a fairly affordable price, designed for users starting in gaming headphones, with a price that is around 35 USD.

Ozone is a Spanish brand born 4 years ago, focused on offering all kinds of gaming peripherals. In addition, it is the sponsor of the Vodafone Giants e-sports team, so it is common to see players with Ozone peripherals who need the most demanding products.

Razer already has a lot of experience in this world of sound and video games. In any Razer headphone review, we have done, we say the same, both ourselves and user opinions. Razer creates quality headsets designed for gaming, creating the best possible experience.

With a fairly careful and current design, they are made mainly of plastic which gives them great lightness, reaching only 329 grams. In the upper part, we have a pad that provides the necessary comfort to not bother us in the least when wearing them. It features vertical regulators to increase the diameter of the headband and a rigid flip-up microphone.

The earpads completely cover the ears, although they are not completely isolating. It should be emphasized in this section, since as a positive point, by not producing encapsulation, we can perceive any sound from the outside, such as a call or the doorbell.

In addition, it has a volume regulator midway through the cable that connects to the headphones that will allow us to raise or lower the volume and even mute the microphone.

Razer Thresher

The Razer Thresher helmets are very comfortable, with a practical structure that manages to fit perfectly. Constructed foam padding with a metal frame, the suspension band is large yet comfortable to wear for hours. A design like this doesn’t even need any adjustment: just put the headphones on, make sure they are comfortably over the ears, and it will automatically adjust to your head.

On the other hand, in terms of colors and design, they show the intense aesthetic hallmarks of Razer; the Razer Thresher Ultimate helmets have a matt black and glossy green appearance. Headphone logos glow bright green during use, with a green plastic ring around it; the rest are black.

The Razer Thresher Ultimate is huge. It has comfortable leatherette ear cushions, with additional padding and carved grooves to make wearing glasses more comfortable. They are really capable of isolating us from outside noise, achieving great clarity and a good multimedia experience.

On the left side of the headphones, we have the volume control (which is the same for the general volume, as for the microphone).

If we do not understand much about sound and our budget is quite limited, we will find affordable headphones where we are not going to notice acoustic deficiencies. However, if you want to enjoy a minimum of sound quality, you will understand that the budget will not allow this feature, taking into account that the design takes the great majority of importance.

It has a stereo sound with quite normal treble and bass and a medium that dirties the final sound that we perceive, making it difficult to enjoy music, but that in video games, we are not going to notice it too much.

The good thing about all this is that after a few minutes and if you do not try something of better quality, you will get used to it and not notice the acoustic deficiency.

A microphone with a length more than enough not to have it stuck to the face and bother us when using it. With a normal sensitivity, we will use it decently in VoIP applications such as Discord, Skype, and TeamSpeak, among others. It’s flip-up, and we have full control to mute it from the cable controls.

Razer Thresher 7.1

Dolby Headphone 7.1 technology- This technology means that we have the perfect headphones for console lovers. It achieves an enveloping sound and many details that will allow us to enter the game, becoming the real protagonists fully. The sounds will appear to come from any direction.

In addition, the Razer Thresher headsets also stand out for these details:

  • LED light: This practical light is located on the microphone arm and will indicate the data transmission.
  • Use with glasses: It has foam grooves to relieve the temples, so they are comfortable, even if we wear glasses.
  • 50mm drivers: This indicates that it achieves a powerful audio level, with a great richness of tones.
  • Signal-to-noise ratio: It has a signal-to-noise ratio of 55 dB.

The wireless connection is via Bluetooth. Calculate that you can move up to a maximum of 12 meters from the device to which it is connected. In the same way, they can be connected via a 3.5 jack cable.

Conclusion!

Ozone Ekho X40 is a starting range to the world of gaming headphones. Although, indeed, they do not have high-quality sound components, they do offer a decent minimum to use them and do not exert any discomfort when wearing them for hours since they do not close in our ears, but they remain with a certain slant. The brand offers us many more possibilities of headphones such as the Rage X40, Rage Z90 or Nuke PRO, having the Ekho X40 as a product-focused on the novice / initial consumer low budget. If there is something I would recommend these headphones for, it is because of the low price we can buy them and the sound output they have: a 3.5 mm jack.

Razer Thresher is one of the best headphones for gaming, especially if you decide to play on play or Xbox. The wireless system is costly, has basic features, and highlights the sound quality.

HUAWEI FreeBuds 3 vs Google Pixel Buds: Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds

Huawei surprised us a few months ago with its recent launch of the third version of the well-known Freebuds, the Huawei Freebuds 3, which also incorporates one of the most demanded characteristics who use them frequently outside the home: active noise cancellation.

We have to bear in mind that most Chinese brands tend to launch their product first at the national level and then in the Indian market. That is why for some of us, the Freebuds could be a very recent launch in Spain, since we have not gotten them officially in local stores until just a few weeks ago, despite having been available for more than 3 months on the market.

Considering that we are talking about the first ones designed entirely by Google, we trust that the company will have decided not to skimp on details and quality. We are talking about headphones that, similarly to the Bose QuietComfort 35 II, have Google Assistant incorporated and a lot of additional functionality, including instant translation that we will mention in more detail.

The TWS technology has become almost a must nowadays, Here we have HUAWEI FreeBuds 3 vs Google Pixel Buds: Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds.

HUAWEI FreeBuds 3

As we had already anticipated, Huawei surprises us with this new noise cancellation feature that has proven to be especially positive in these Freebuds 3. We find ourselves for the first time in the range of products of this brand with a headset that offers us call quality sublime: not only in terms of the quality of the microphone that surpasses its competitors but also in terms of the clarity of the sound when receiving calls.

RELATED:  Top2: Beats Powerbeats Pro vs Bose Sport Earbuds

It is important to highlight this active noise cancellation since it frees the smartphone load to which we are paired and does it in a very reliable way thanks to its dedicated processor, which we will notice practically immediately if we compare it with lower-end headphones.

Google Pixel Buds

This adaptive technology is also applied to the microphone, which implies that the orders or requests that we make to our smartphone will be received correctly regardless of the noise level around us.

This surprising characteristic is achieved thanks to certain sensors capable of detecting speech through the vibrations of the jaw so that the device can capture our orders and our interlocutor can hear clearly, regardless of the place in the room that we meet or the activity that we are doing.

The aesthetic reminds us of the classic AirPods 2 in every way, and many could argue that coming from Huawei, a very controversial brand, for having been doing a strong follow-up on an aesthetic level to each one of Apple’s products, no Nothing has been risked in the design of these headphones.

At first glance, it will be difficult for us to differentiate between the two models. However, the truth is that in the price, they do not vary too much, being a perfect alternative for those Android users who appreciate the aesthetics and materials used by Apple products as a whole.

The only problem that it shares with many headphones of this design is a well-known one: they start from the premise that they are headphones that fit all ears by default, something that will never be true, and those with larger ears will notice a lot of slack up to the point of relative risk of falling, as well as the smallest ones will notice a little undue pressure.

RELATED:  Top2 Earbuds: Google Pixel Buds vs Sony WF-1000XM3

We see that changes are the charging station, with a rounded appearance, and the introduction of a USB-C port that we will discuss later.

Google Pixel Buds

The new Google Pixel Buds headphones have inherited certain characteristics from their predecessors, such as touch control or autonomy of more than 5 hours, which could even reach those 24 hours with the wireless charging case that incorporates this new version.

A strong point of these headphones is that they offer so-called ‘adaptive sound.’ This technology makes the volume of what we are listening to adjust automatically to the ambient sound in which we are at all times.

This feature improves its usability, security, and comfort since we can be integrated into the environment without repeatedly disconnecting and reconnecting the sound when we walk through certain places.

HUAWEI FreeBuds 3

We find inside with a Kirin A1 processor, which immediately invites us to think that the sound processing will be quite high compared to the average and will bring a lot of functionality compared to its competitors.

The sound quality is quite adequate, with a fairly stable range of highs and mids, only lacking detail in the bass section. The soundstage is not particularly wide, but we have to argue that practically no wireless headphones stand out in this regard, except for some specific audio brands that may be a more suitable alternative for those audiophiles who require greater precision throughout the range.

In terms of compatibility, this is something that Huawei will definitely beat most of its competitors by a landslide since it allows playing with all kinds of codecs, from AAC to AptX-HD, something that is usually rare in the industry.

The battery without charging in its base is just 3 and a half hours, something below other headphones of such size and price. We can compensate for this with an autonomy of more than 20 hours if we frequently connect them to their charging station.

The good thing is that Huawei has managed to compensate for this deficiency by offering many charging options for the base:

Google Pixel Buds

As we have already mentioned, they have a battery that can last up to 5 hours of use. The magnificent charging case, which offers an ergonomic oval shape, can reach up to 24 hours of autonomy and a charging speed above average since it includes a USB-C connector.

In addition, it has the advantage of allowing Qi charging since it provides wireless charging support, unusual for this type of product.

We have the USB-C charge somewhat faster than the Micro-USB version since it allows us to provide a greater amperage. On the other hand, we have the Qi wireless charging that is already common in the latest models of TWS headphones.

Finally, we have observed that it offers us wireless reverse charging, which allows the latter to transmit some charge to our station in case we fall short at some point if the smartphone is compatible.

Google Pixel Buds

Compared with the previous model, the connection between the headphones and the phone is significantly higher. The range of the Bluetooth 4.0+ signal allows us to connect to the phone at a distance of 90 meters outdoors or with a separation of three rooms if we are in closed spaces such as a home or office.

This is much more than the first version offered, which means that the conversation is not cut off if we leave a room in the house or office without carrying the smartphone with us.

Conclusion!

HUAWEI FreeBuds 3

We can say that it is a headset that within its range satisfies most of the needs that we could have, and if we add to this the fact of having a terminal of the same brand, we could ensure that we are talking about a very appropriate purchase.

Google Pixel Buds

At last, we can enjoy the long-awaited Pixel Buds, totally wireless True Wireless Stereo (TWS) headphones that fully enter to compete in the segment of the popular AirPods. With real-time translation, wireless charging, and adaptive sound technology.

True Wireless Earbuds: AUKEY EP-N5 vs Haylou GT1 PRO

AUKEY introduced in the soundbar section a few years ago, and that, to this day, it presents us with a fairly wide and varied range. While not yet competing against the big manufacturers like JBL or Ultimate Ears, these are products capable of keeping the lower ranges at bay, with respectable superior quality. And to a certain degree, we expect something similar with these headphones from the moment we started to open the box.

Haylou, and his GT1 PRO (along with the Plus version that came together), has specialized in the field of True Wireless Stereo (TWS) to bring us a highly polished product at a challenging price to beat. Whether we have the opportunity to acquire the PRO or Plus version, the characteristics are the same, and the only thing that will change is the autonomy of the dock and some improvements in the sound chipset of the Plus version.

Let’s check out and compare these two True Wireless Earbuds: AUKEY EP-N5 vs. Haylou GT1 PRO.

Pros and Cons

At the time of putting on the headphones, we must insist that the expectations were shallow, similar to those we would have with models of such a size. But the first impressions were quite pleasant. The range of sound was very clear from bass to treble, through clean vocal notes, and a volume range more than appropriate for a TWS in this category.

But, as expected, neither can we regulated the volume from the headset, nor do we have a custom application to equalize these headphones at your convenience. This means that there are some points below other versions that do have it in terms of total sound quality.

Haylou GT1 PRO

RELATED:  Comparison: HyperX Cloud II (2020) vs HyperX Cloud Alpha S

As usually happens in this type of low-budget headphones, we cannot expect great results in this section. Although it has not ceased to surprise us how well balanced the responses are to all types of frequencies, we observe that it does not stand out in anyone in particular.

Nor can we ignore that we have detected that the low frequency of the bass is quite weak compared to other headphones of similar price. We have tried different funk and jazz music pieces with a higher bass dominance and noticed this lack of clarity almost immediately.

On the other hand, in the range of the mids, the highs, and the voices, the thing is much more stable, and this allows, in general, to enjoy more commercial music since it sounds quite acceptable. As for the soundstage, we can detect that sound envelopment, but it is not exceptional either.

Many think that such simple packaging can only lead to a cheap and low-quality product, more typical of a Chinese private label than a strong competitor in the TWS segment that concerns us here. The truth is that, far from this reality, the AUKEY brand has always been characterized by investing little in the exterior and a lot in the interior.

As soon as we have the charging station in our hands, we realize that this is not a common low-end headset at an inflated price, but it does not stand out with a particularly striking design either. To a certain degree, it reminds us of AirPods with certain details such as the charging LEDs that light up to indicate the status of the battery and its USB-C connector, which is quite surprising for the price we find in this product.

RELATED:  Compare: Audio Technica ATH-M50x vs Philips Fidelio X2

The black plastic construction surprises by being a point above in quality and robustness compared to other lower-end headphones. It is important to bear in mind that technically, these headphones belong to the low range, although slightly higher. Therefore, anything that exceeds the gamut is worth highlighting.

The quality of the material demonstrates the ability to achieve IPX5 certification, which guarantees that the product can be wet (it works under the shower without problems) but not submerged, which would have been very appreciable.

Haylou GT1 PRO

Although we will focus on the GT1 Pro, we can see in general lines that the GT1 range is designed on the same structure. It is a simple headset, comfortable to place, and adaptable to most of the anatomies of the ear, which follows a widespread line in many headphones on the Asian market, as we have already seen in other Xiaomi AirDots types models.

To the comfort section, we have to add that we find three interchangeable silicone pads in the box.

It does not offer a range of colors or sizes. We will always find this extremely compact and imperceptible black version in weight (just 4 grams), making them extremely comfortable and easy to take with us anywhere.

As for the charging station, we have to say that the GT1 Pro version is a little larger than expected, and in the pocket, it could be a bit uncomfortable, something that does not happen in other GT1 versions such as the Plus, being so fine that it would barely bulge. But we have to justify that the station’s size is justifiable: the difference in load capacity is overwhelming, as we will see later.

The battery of the headphones also turns out to be another strong point. The brand does not promise more than what it offers: a range of 7 hours, something above the classic 4 hours that we find in mediocre headphones. We must add another 3 additional charges through the base (with 500 mAh of charge available). In this way, we can enjoy using this product for a whole day in a row.

Haylou GT1 PRO

These headphones offer us an incredible battery, with around 4 hours of use and 25 hours if stored in the charging station. We are talking about an 800 mAh battery in the charging station and 43 mAh in each earbud.

Although the headphone’s battery is not too surprising, we can see that we have about 18 full recharges available with the charging station, compared to the three recharges offered by the Plus version. We are talking about six times more autonomy than this version and several times the autonomy of most products of this type on the market.
